A beginners guide to horse bridles

Horse Bridles

On the face of it finding a horse bridle seems a simple matter, as there are literally thousands of bridles for sale. However, delve into the matter a bit deeper and you will soon find out that the process of finding a suitable horse bridle, is a bit more involved than you may think.

Types of Horse Bridle

Firstly you need to decide what type of horse bridle you need. If you are living in the UK or Europe, the chances are that you will be riding in an English or European saddle and will require an English bridle or European bridle. If you live in the USA, whilst many ride their horses in the English style, let us not forget that thousands of horse owners ride in the Western Style, with a Western Saddle and Western Bridle.

Once you have decided on the style of riding, you need to think about the style of the bridle. Are you going to require a plain bridle or a bridle with a flash? If you are jumping you may require a grackle bridle. Would you prefer an ergonomic bridle and what color leather Black, Brown or Tan?

Horse Bridle Sizes

Once you have decided on a bridle, you need to know what size you require. Bridles normally come in Small Pony, Pony, Cob, Full, and Extra Full. Whilst there is no industry standard measurements, bridles are made in roughly the same sizes, although you may find European Bridles at bit larger than their English counterparts. If your pony or horse already has a bridle, it is relatively simple to take the measurements from that and apply them to the measurements of the new bridle.
